The Detroit story
Chad Everett was born Raymon Lee Cramton in South Bend, Indiana, and grew up in Dearborn, the Ford Motor Company's hometown next to Detroit, where he attended Fordson High School. He went on to Wayne State University in Detroit, and in his junior year he joined a State Department–sponsored acting troupe that toured India, an early taste of the stage. He then headed to Hollywood, where Warner Bros. signed him and gave him the name Chad Everett; he later joked that he did not mind, since he was tired of spelling out his real name. After a string of film and television roles, he found lasting fame as the young surgeon Dr. Joe Gannon in CBS's Medical Center (1969–1976), a role that brought him Golden Globe nominations. Late in his career he appeared in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive.
