The Detroit story
By the time Caron Butler signed a two-year, nine-million-dollar contract with the Pistons in July 2014, he was already a well-traveled veteran with two All-Star selections from his years with Washington. In Detroit he settled into a reserve role for a Pistons team trying to rebuild around young center Andre Drummond, bringing playoff and locker-room experience from stops in Miami, the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas and Oklahoma City. He moved on after one season, later closing out his career with the Sacramento Kings. Butler has since become an assistant coach in the NBA.
