The Detroit story
Detroit made Delfino the 25th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft, a historic selection as the first Argentine ever taken in the first round, and he joined the Pistons for the 2004–05 season. His role stayed limited through three seasons on a deep roster built around veterans like Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace, and injuries slowed his development further. Still known for his defensive effort and outside shooting, he was traded to Toronto in June 2007 for future draft picks. Delfino went on to play a decade in the NBA and remained a mainstay of Argentina's national team, part of the golden generation that included Manu Ginóbili.
