The Detroit story
Andrew Bazzi was born in Canton, in western Wayne County, and grew up in Dearborn, home of one of the largest Arab-American communities in the United States. The son of a Lebanese immigrant father, he learned Arabic and played kazoo, oud and guitar as a child. As a teenager he attended Plymouth-Canton Educational Park and began posting cover songs on YouTube in 2012, then built a following with comedy and music clips on Vine. In November 2014 he moved to the Los Angeles area to pursue music full time and finished high school at Santa Monica High. His self-produced single “Mine” (2017) became a meme on Musical.ly and Snapchat and climbed to No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his debut album Cosmic (2018) reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200.
