The Detroit story
Anita Barone was born on September 25, 1964, and came to Detroit for her training as an actress. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Detroit in 1986, then an MFA in theatre at Wayne State University, where she studied under director and professor Robert T. Hazzard in the university's graduate acting program. From Detroit she moved to television comedy. She appeared as Carol, Ross's ex-wife, in the very first episode of Friends before the part was recast, and went on to regular roles in The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Daddio and the military-family sitcom The War at Home. Younger viewers know her as Officer Georgia Jones, the police-officer mother of CeCe in Disney Channel's Shake It Up. Her path is a reminder of Detroit's role as a training ground for stage actors.
