Aaron Krickstein was born in Ann Arbor, the son of a housewife and a pathologist, and grew up playing competitive tennis across Michigan as a teenager. He still holds the state's record for most consecutive high school match wins, with 56. Krickstein turned professional and reached a career-high ATP ranking of world No. 6 in February 1990, with strong showings at Wimbledon and the US Open. He is best remembered for his marathon five-set loss to Jimmy Connors at the 1991 US Open, an instant classic that overshadowed his own long career.
