In town for the Red Wings? Turn game night into a whole weekend

Sleep minutes from Little Caesars Arena, grab a pregame beer, toast on a rooftop after, then ride the People Mover and walk the river: one game, one full weekend.

The Red Wings play at Little Caesars Arena, and everything a visiting fan needs is right around it: a hotel minutes from the doors, a brewpub, a rooftop bar. Friday is game night; Saturday we show you downtown from the People Mover and the riverfront. You barely need a car, since the QLINE and the People Mover are both free.

Friday night: game night

  1. 16:00

AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle

Midtown · Brush Park (Woodward & Eliot)

Drop your bags at Woodward and Eliot: the 154-room AC Hotel opened in 2025, has a rooftop bar and bills itself as the closest hotel to Little Caesars Arena. Check-in starts at 4 p.m., and next door stands Albert Kahn's 1902 Bonstelle Theatre, restored as part of the project.

Hop the QLINE at MLK / Mack (two minutes from the hotel) south to Grand Circus, or walk about 20 minutes down Woodward.

  2. 17:00

    Detroit Beer Company

    Downtown / Broadway

Pregame pints on the first two floors of the historic Hartz Building: Detroit Beer Company has been brewing here since September 2003 and shows the games, too. It can post special game-day hours, so check before you head over.

About a 15-minute walk north up Woodward to the arena.

  3. 18:30

    Little Caesars Arena

    Midtown

The heart of the weekend: the Red Wings have played here since 2017 (the Pistons too). If the conversation in your row turns to history, the Red Wings have won 11 Stanley Cups, most recently in 2008. Always check your ticket for the seating setup, since it changes between games and concerts.

After the final horn, walk about 15 minutes south to John R Street, or ride the QLINE from the Sproat Street platform to Grand Circus.

  4. 22:00

    The Monarch Club

    Downtown

Nightcap on top of the Metropolitan Building: the 1925 neo-Gothic tower was once called the Jewelers' Building, and the Monarch Club is a rooftop cocktail bar with skyline views and zero-proof options. Check the reservation and dress-code notes, and whether the terrace is open, before you go up.

Back to bed: QLINE from Grand Circus north to MLK / Mack.

Saturday: downtown from above and by the river

  1. 10:00

    Campus Martius Park

    Downtown

Start the morning in Detroit's outdoor living room: Campus Martius traces back to the city plan drawn after the 1805 fire, with the Michigan Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument at its center. In winter there's skating; check rink season and reservations with the Downtown Detroit Partnership.

Two minutes on foot to the People Mover's Cadillac Center station, under the One Campus Martius garage.

  2. 10:30

    Detroit People Mover

    Downtown

Hop on the driverless cars: the 2.9-mile one-way loop hits 13 stations, takes about 15 minutes and has been free since January 2, 2024. Out the window you get Canada, the RenCen's glass towers and the Guardian Building's orange brick, and every station has its own artwork.

Get off at the Renaissance Center station, Level 2 of Tower 200.

  3. 11:00

    Renaissance Center

    Downtown

The RenCen's center tower rises 727 feet (221.5 meters), Michigan's tallest building, and holds the roughly 1,300-room Detroit Marriott. The whole complex is being rewritten: under Bedrock and GM's plan, the two towers nearest the river would come down. Follow where things stand live on our page.

A few minutes' walk out to the water.

  4. 11:45

    Detroit Riverwalk

    Riverfront

Windsor and Canada right across the water: the Riverwalk strings together promenades, parks and places to pause. Don't try to do it all; pick one stretch (around the RenCen, or east toward Milliken State Park) and leave time for the view.

People Mover from the Renaissance Center station to Times Square, then a few minutes on foot to Washington Boulevard.

  5. 14:30

    Parlay Detroit

    Downtown / Washington Boulevard

Afternoon means the rest of the slate on big screens: Parlay is a sports bar with cocktails, bar food and a patio called The Outfield. Book ahead for big games and ask whether they'll put yours on.

Good to know

  • Every Red Wings home game is on the Quarter Detroit events calendar: the 2026–27 home opener is Friday, October 2, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. against the New York Rangers.
  • If the AC Hotel is full, The Inn at 97 Winder is a five-minute walk from the arena, and Hotel David Whitney (it opened as an Aloft in 2014) and Element Detroit at the Metropolitan sit by Grand Circus Park, a minute from the People Mover.
  • On game nights, show up early and check the arena's rules on mobile tickets, bag sizes and entry gates before you go.
  • Our page notes the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is expected to close temporarily after April 2027, so double-check before booking dates further out.

We built these plans from our own checked place pages. Hours and prices change, so check each place’s page before you go.
