What does a fall Saturday at Eastern Market look like?

The fall market at dawn, a Dequindre Cut walk to the river, a lighthouse, beer in Rivertown, hot cider at Beacon Park, the Heidelberg Project, then beer and pizza.

Every shed at Eastern Market is still open on fall Saturdays, and the city around it leans into the season too. You start with the market, walk the graffiti-lined Dequindre Cut down to the river, catch Beacon Park's cider festival and the Heidelberg Project in the afternoon, then head back to the market district for beer and pizza. Dress in layers and plan on a few short drives.

A fall Saturday

  1. 07:30

    Eastern Market

    Eastern Market

Per the Quarter Detroit events calendar, the fall Saturday Market runs 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. with every shed open: local produce, flowers and plants, packaged foods and handmade goods. Walk all the sheds before you buy, and check out the murals on the surrounding streets.

About a 13-minute walk to the nearest Dequindre Cut access point.

  2. 09:30

    Dequindre Cut Greenway

    Riverfront / Eastern Market

A former below-grade rail corridor turned walking and cycling path, with bridges, retaining walls and graffiti, linking the market district to the riverfront. The route is the experience: walk it south and keep an eye out for cyclists, since you share the path.

From the Cut's south end, a few minutes along the Riverwalk to Milliken State Park.

  3. 10:30

William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor

    Riverfront

The 63-foot (about 19-meter) white lighthouse on the river echoes the Tawas Point lighthouse, surrounded by wetlands, a harbor and views of Canada. Enjoy it from outside; don't count on getting into the tower.

About 20 minutes east on the Riverwalk, then up Jos Campau Street.

  4. 11:45

Atwater Brewery — Detroit Tap House

    Rivertown

Lunch and a beer in Rivertown: Atwater's Detroit taproom has a food menu, and its official photos show a rooftop terrace. Check the Detroit location's page for hours and food, since Atwater has other locations too.

About 10 minutes by car to Grand River Avenue on the west side of downtown.

  5. 13:30

    Beacon Park

    Downtown

In fall, Beacon Park throws a cider festival: Cider in the City runs Saturdays and Sundays, October 10–18, 2026, from 1 to 5 p.m., with hot cider, pumpkins and caramel apples from Blake's Farms, live entertainment and family activities. On other days the open lawn makes an easy downtown breather; light installations and events come and go.

About 15 minutes by car east to the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood.

  6. 15:30

    Heidelberg Project

    McDougall-Hunt

Tyree Guyton started building this outdoor art environment from found objects on the east side in 1986: houses, yards and everyday things speaking to neglect, memory and renewal. The installations change over time and people live here, so stay off private property and don't move anything.

About 5 minutes by car back to Orleans Street on the north side of the market district.

  7. 17:00

    Full Measure Brewing Company

    Eastern Market

Fall beers in Eastern Market: Full Measure brews Belgian, German and British styles, and its September list ran from saison and witbier to pilsner, dunkel and British mild, with hand-pumped cask ale showing up too. It also hosts themed beer dinners, which can need separate tickets or reservations.

A 6-minute walk to Russell Street.

  8. 19:00

    Supino Pizzeria – Eastern Market

    Eastern Market

End the day with pizza next to the market on Russell Street. Check Supino's official site for the current menu and hours before you go.
