Eating vegan in Detroit isn't a compromise; you just need to know where to go. We built this day from our pages and each spot's official menu, checked on October 1, 2026: market and a vegan breakfast in the morning, a Detroit vegan beauty brand's flagship and burgers at midday, ice cream in the afternoon, then ramen and an Irish pub. Get up early; the market is best in the morning.

Saturday

  1. 08:30

    Eastern Market

    Eastern Market

Start at the market while everything's fresh: on Saturdays the sheds are full of local produce, flowers, plants and packaged foods. Grab something for later, then stroll to Gratiot Avenue.

About a 7-minute walk to Gratiot Avenue.

  2. 10:00

    Trinosophes

    Eastern Market

Breakfast in a former spice-processing warehouse: Trinosophes is a vegetarian cafe with local ingredients and house-baked bread and pastries. The official menu marks vegan items like smashed avocado on house-made nut-seed bread and a vegetable grain bowl, and the coffee comes from Anthology Coffee in Eastern Market.

About 5 minutes by car downtown to Woodward Avenue.

  3. 12:00

    The Lip Bar

    Downtown

Vegan goes beyond the plate: Melissa Butler started mixing lipstick in her kitchen in 2012, The Lip Bar now sells in more than 2,000 stores, and since fall 2023 its flagship has been right here on Woodward with the full vegan, cruelty-free lineup. Swatch shades, book a lesson or hit the brow bar; it's open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays.

A 7-minute walk toward Greektown, to Brush Street.

  4. 13:00

Basement Burger Bar – Detroit (Greektown)

    Greektown

Lunch where you're the chef: Basement Burger Bar's 10-plus proteins include vegan ones, and the falafel and hummus come from the owners' mom's recipes. Open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays; expect a rush on game days.

About an 11-minute walk to Griswold Street.

  5. 15:30

    Milk & Froth

    Downtown

Dessert: Milk & Froth builds every flavor from its own recipe, cooked and pasteurized in its Eastern Market kitchen with no premade base, and it scoops vegan flavors alongside the dairy ones. Open 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturdays.

About 10 minutes by car to Michigan Avenue in Corktown.

  6. 18:30

    Ima Izakaya

    Corktown

Dinner: Ima's menu marks vegan dishes with a V. The official menu lists a vegan pho, the Porcini Forest ramen in a mushroom and vegetable dashi, chilled sesame udon and a grilled eggplant entree, and the yuzu miso and golden curry ramens are vegan without the egg.

About 10 minutes by car to Monroe Street in Greektown.

  7. 21:00

    The Old Shillelagh

    Downtown / Greektown

Finish at an Irish pub running since 1975 that says it has one of the area's largest plant-based menus: traditional Irish fare made plant-based, with live music and sports on weekends. Open until 2 a.m. on Saturdays.

Good to know

  • The Old Shillelagh says plainly it isn't a vegan kitchen: cheese, sauces and dips on its plant-based menu are plant-based, and fryers and grill aren't shared with animal products, but ask if you have allergies.
  • Here on a weekday? 7 Greens on Library Street does salads, warm bowls and cold-pressed juices for weekday lunch, and Lunchtime Global makes eight scratch soups daily, always including a vegan one.
  • In Woodbridge, most pizzas at Pie-Sci can be made vegan for an upcharge, house-made cashew cheese included, and Mom's Spaghetti's window does spaghetti with vegan meatballs.
  • Trinosophes' cafe runs Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so plan around that if you go on a weekday.
