Chamber Series: Music on the Lawn

Throughout June Fridays, Flint Institute of Music faculty and Flint Symphony Orchestra members offered chamber music concerts outdoors on the MacArthur Lawn at the Dort Music Center. The opening night, June 5, featured a brass quintet on the lawn by Longway Planetarium as part of Mott Foundation’s centennial family celebrations, with expected road closures and limited parking. Subsequent Fridays brought percussion ensemble, string quartet, and big band performances. In case of rain, high winds, or heat, the music moved indoors to the recital hall. Seating was limited and filling up first-come, first-served; guests were encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. The series was sponsored by the Whiting Foundation and the Patricia and David Dort Funds.
