Alonso Umana Quartet

The Alonso Umana Quartet concert takes place at the Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor. Alonso Umana began playing drums at age 10, born in Costa Rica and raised in Mexico. He completed his Bachelor's degree at City College of New York with support from the Latin Grammy Foundation's Tuition Assistance Scholarship. He studied under prominent musicians including Greg Hutchinson and Ali Jackson, who also produced his debut album "Rule of Nature." Alonso has shared the stage with artists such as Brian Lynch and Walter Blanding. He is a significant artist on the Mexico City jazz scene and released a second album, "Fo’Nection," in 2024 before returning to the United States for graduate studies at Michigan State University.
