Ali Bey at Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe

Ali Bey was born in Detroit in 1970 and started playing bass guitar at eleven. His parents influenced his musical path—his dad introduced him to jazz, blues, and R&B, while his mom is a gospel singer who encouraged him to pursue gospel music. Music teacher Herbert Nicholson recognized Ali’s talent and guided him toward jazz. He began his professional career with composer Harold McKinney during high school and later played with jazz trumpeter Marcus Blegrave and saxophonist Donald Walden.
