Straight Ahead

Straight Ahead emerged from Detroit’s vibrant jazz scene and made history as the first all-woman jazz band signed to a major label, Atlantic Records. The group’s lineup of strong instrumentalists and vocalists creates an eclectic sound that moves seamlessly between jazz, Latin rhythms, and jazzy hip-hop. Their live shows are full of energy, joy, and diverse musical textures. They gained international exposure as finalists at the “Sony Innovators” competition and opened for Nina Simone at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Since then, they have toured around the world, sharing stages with artists like Kem, Roy Ayers, and Stanley Clarke. With five recordings showcasing original compositions and influences from 70s R&B and Neo Soul, Straight Ahead remains a prominent jazz ensemble.
