Russ Macklem Detroit Quintet

Russ Macklem is a Windsor/Detroit-based trumpet player and composer who released his debut album, The South Detroit Connection, in 2023, nominated for a JUNO award. His live album was the first recorded in Windsor in over 22 years since Detroit jazz legend Marcus Belgrave’s recording there. Russ’s quintet features Kasan Belgrave, Marcus’s son, on saxophone and flute. Russ plays regularly at Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor and various Midwest venues. His musical education includes a Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Miami and a Master’s from New England Conservatory, and he has collaborated with artists like Amp Fiddler, Dave Holland, and Bob Marley’s sons.
