Ian Finkelstein

Ian Finkelstein, also known as Ian Fink, is a key force in the emerging generation of Detroit jazz musicians. Known for his virtuosity and versatility, he continuously experiments while building a broad audience both locally and internationally. He has toured internationally with artists like Kassa Overall and Shigeto and has shared the stage with notable musicians including Benny Golson, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Karriem Riggins. His keyboard performances appear on recordings by Earl Sweatshirt, Robert Hurst, Black Milk and others. In 2017, he founded the record label Freak Press. A student and protégé of Marcus Belgrave and Geri Allen, he graduated from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance and is an alumnus of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Ensembles. In 2024, he was honored as a Kresge Artist Fellow and a Spirit of Detroit honoree.
