Wayne State faculty concert and session

The Wayne State University jazz faculty, known as the Detroit Jazz Professors, featuring Chris Collins, Vincent Chandler, Russ Miller, Chuck Newsome, Paul Keller, and David Taylor, perform a concert at Cliff Bell’s beginning at 7:30 p.m. The concert requires a $25 cover charge. Later, an open jam session begins at 9:30 p.m., welcoming musicians and students who bring their instruments free of charge. This event is part of J.C. Heard JazzWeek, a tuition-free weeklong jazz education workshop for selected high school students, supported by the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation and Wayne State University. Guest educator Shannon Powell, notable figure in New Orleans jazz, imparts traditional New Orleans jazz and second-line styles and repertoire.
