Missant

The J Rowe / Jordan Schug Sextet presents Missant in two showtimes. The group performs original works composed by Rowe and Schug that draw inspiration from early 1970s British progressive jazz groups like Soft Machine and Ian Carr’s Nucleus, while staying rooted in the classic Detroit jazz tradition of artists such as Marcus Belgrave and Roy Brooks. The co-leaders, as the rhythm section with drums and double bass, create a strong rhythmic pulse reminiscent of Latin and jazz fusion styles. Along with trumpet and saxophone, the use of Mellotron adds a distinctive texture to their live sound. Formed in winter 2022/2023, the sextet has completed recording their debut album Missant with producer Warren Defever, slated for release in Fall/Winter 2024.
