Russ Macklem Detroit Quintet and Jam Session

Russ Macklem’s sophomore album, "Introducing: the Russ Macklem Detroit Quintet," is a live-off-the-floor studio recording capturing the spirit of early 1960s jazz. The group includes Kasan Belgrave on alto sax, Jordan Anderson on piano, Noah Jackson on bass, Louis Jones III on drums, and Macklem himself on trumpet. Highlighted tunes like "I Will Persevere," "Nostalgia: For A Past Life," and "Mr. Anderson" bring a blend of beauty and energy that reflect Macklem’s compositional skill. Recorded in a converted church in Willis, Michigan, the album was produced by Macklem and Ron Skinner. At Cliff Bell’s, doors opened at 5 p.m. for dinner; seating began at 6 p.m. for the first show at 7:30 p.m., with the second show seating starting at 9 p.m. Musicians joining the jam session enjoyed free entry.
