J Rowe / Jordan Schug Sextet

The J Rowe / Jordan Schug Sextet performs all-original music written by Rowe and Schug. Their sound channels the spirit of early 1970s British progressive jazz groups like Soft Machine and Ian Carr’s Nucleus, while staying deeply rooted in the classic Detroit jazz styles of heroes such as Marcus Belgrave and Lyman Woodard. With co-leaders Rowe on drums and Schug on double bass, the rhythm section drives a strong, dynamic pulse influenced by Latin music and jazz fusion. Trumpet and saxophone parts enrich the arrangements, and the addition of Mellotron adds a unique textural layer to their live shows. Though the sextet formed only recently in winter 2022/2023, they have already completed their debut album, MISSANT, produced by Warren Defever, set for release in late 2024.
