America at 250 - Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra

America at 250 is a musical program marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The concert includes music by John Williams, Duke Ellington, John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland, and a composition inspired by the paintings of Norman Rockwell. The Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra is joined by the Michigan Tech Concert Choir in performing the Battle Hymn of the Republic and collaborates with Michigan Tech's premier jazz ensemble, the Jazz Lab Band, for Ellington's Grand Slam Jam. The performance takes place at the Rozsa Center and runs approximately 90 minutes including an intermission.

The Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1971, is the oldest orchestra in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and comprises Michigan Tech students, faculty, staff, and community musicians. The Michigan Tech Concert Choir consists of selected students and community members performing choral music spanning from Gregorian chant to contemporary works. The Jazz Lab Band is Michigan Tech's top jazz ensemble, performing a wide range of jazz styles with a focus on modern and original compositions.

This event is part of the Michigan Tech Music Series, which brings together university and community performers for live music events in the Keweenaw region.
