Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra

The Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra started 20 years before as a rehearsal band to play Gwinnell’s compositions, encouraged by friends and musicians. They played weekly gigs at Detroit’s Music Menu Cafe and later at Cadieux Cafe, sometimes featuring trumpet legend Marcus Belgrave. At Cliff Bell’s, the band had matured into a respected ensemble, recording albums that won Detroit Music Awards and collaborating with artists like Aria Hendricks and Dominic Faranacci. They've performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival among other events, including a project with bassist John Clayton that earned a standing ovation. The band features players like Keith Kaminski, James Hughes, and Bob Jensen. On this night, a high school jazz band kicked off the show, showcasing local emerging talent.
