Midtown Sounds Jazz Concert at Cliff Bell’s

Midtown Sounds is an eight-piece jazz group made up of current and former Wayne State University students, focusing on a modern take of the iconic 1950s west coast jazz sound. Their influences include Miles Davis’ Birth of the Cool, third-stream, post-bop styles, and artists such as Chet Baker, Gil Evans, Tadd Dameron, Gerry Mulligan, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The band features a range of instruments from saxophones and trumpet to piano, creating a rich, layered sound on the stage of Cliff Bell’s. This past concert took place on Sunday, November 19, 2017, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Detroit.
