Patrick Prouty's Orchestra Cinématique presents: Modern Times
Patrick Prouty's Orchestra Cinématique plays a live improvised score to Charlie Chaplin's silent classic Modern Times on Thursday, December 17, with shows at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Cliff Bell's in Detroit. Prouty is the City of Detroit's Composer Laureate.
Chaplin's Modern Times doesn't hit the big screen with a live band every day. Here, Orchestra Cinématique improvises the score as the film plays, with some of Detroit's finest improvisers led by Patrick Prouty, the city's Composer Laureate.
Prouty is a Detroit bassist, composer, conductor and educator. He has toured North America, Europe and Asia with Bettye Lavette and Johnnie Bassett, and played the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Detroit Jazz Festival. His music has been heard on Brooklyn 99, Breaking Bad and Suits, and the Michigan Music Hall of Fame gave him a lifetime achievement award in 2023.
Doors open at 5 p.m. for dinner. Seating for Dinner & a Show begins at 6 p.m., and seating for the second show starts at 8:45 p.m.
