The Borderland Ensemble
The Borderland Ensemble, a cross-border jazz collective from the Windsor-Detroit region led by trumpeter Austin Di Pietro, plays two sets on Saturday, January 30, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor. The cover is $25.
The Borderland Ensemble is a jazz collective based in the Windsor-Detroit region, led by trumpeter and composer Austin Di Pietro. The lineup features Alex Colista on alto sax, Tom Bartelmay on guitar, Aya Sekine on piano, Trevor Lamb on bass and Zachary McKinney on drums.
They play original music rooted in hard bop and post-bop, with more contemporary influences mixed in. Two cities, two countries and one river are both their subject and their fuel, and they treat the border as a source of creative possibility rather than an obstacle.
Their first album, Live at Mackenzie Hall Jazz, came out July 3, 2026. You can reserve a table through the club.
