Gemini Turns 156
Twin brothers San and Laz Slomovits, better known as Gemini, celebrate their 78th birthdays on Sunday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m. at The Ark in Ann Arbor. It's a grown-ups' concert of songs, instrumentals and originals, with tickets at $29.
Gemini has been a regular at The Ark since 1974 and is especially known for kids' and family shows. This one is just for adults, so leave the little ones with their favorite babysitter.
The brothers are also marking the start of their 54th year in music. Expect traditional and 60s folk, pop songs from the 30s through the 80s, instrumental tunes from the British Isles and Eastern Europe, plus San and Laz's own songs and poetry settings. They play guitars, violins, mandolin, pennywhistle, bones and more.
On stage with them: San's daughter Emily on vocals and violin, Laz's partner Jennifer Burd on bowed psaltery, and Good Mischief Band regulars Eric Fithian on bass and Mike Morrison on drums. Online and phone prices include the processing fee; at The Ark's box office during open hours you can buy in person with no added fees.
