Colin McCahill
Detroit alto saxophonist Colin McCahill, co-leader of the jazz collective DICHI, plays Aretha's Jazz Café at Music Hall in Detroit on Friday, October 23, at 8 p.m. He's joined by Hayden Cusmano on guitar, Ian Lukas on bass and Jason Gaddis on drums.
McCahill studied under Gary Bartz at Oberlin Conservatory, then moved to Detroit and became a regular at local jazz rooms, including Cliff Bells, Bakers Keyboard Lounge and Dirty Dog Jazz Café. Alto is his main horn, but he also plays tenor and soprano.
He co-leads DICHI with guitarist Hayden Cusmano, a group that mixes original music with soul, groove and funk. Their debut record, Woodward Groove, came out in fall 2025. His heroes include Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt and Michael Brecker, and he has played Adderley tribute shows at Aretha's before.
