Ian Fink Trio
Detroit pianist, producer and composer Ian Fink brings his trio to Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor on Friday, November 13, with sets at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. He blends Detroit's jazz tradition with its house and techno scene; the cover is $25.
Ian Finkelstein started out as a teenager under Marcus Belgrave and Rodney Whitaker, and was gigging professionally by 14. He studied with Geri Allen at the University of Michigan and earned two BFAs, in Jazz Piano Performance and Performing Arts Technology.
Detroit's house and techno scene shaped him as much as jazz did. In 2017 he started the Freak Press label, which puts out jazz, house and ambient records. He has played on records by Earl Sweatshirt, Kassa Overall, Black Milk and Shigeto, and was in Kassa Overall's band from 2021 to 2024, including a Tiny Desk Concert. He received a Kresge Artist Fellowship in 2024.
There are two sets, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. You can reserve a table through the club.
