Roots and Futures Youth Summit
Detroit's Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History hosts the Roots and Futures Youth Summit on Saturday, December 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where young people imagine the city a hundred years from now. It's free, with registration required.
Roots & Futures Youth Summit 2026 puts youth voice front and center. Participants dig into the museum's collection and use immersive artistic experiences to explore how the legacy they inherit can shape the city they leave behind.
The theme is Afrofuturism, an artistic, cultural, and political movement that looks at where Black culture, technology, and the future meet. It uses science fiction, magical realism, and fantasy to critique historical injustices and picture liberated, empowered futures.
For parents: lunch, snacks, and breaks are included. Please pick up your young person promptly at 4 p.m. A parent or guardian needs to complete the registration.
