Autumn Shoreline Guided Tour

Edsel & Eleanor Ford House offers a 50-minute guided walk along Ford Cove and Bird Island, starting Saturday, October 17, at noon and running through Friday, October 23, in Grosse Pointe Shores. Expect fall color, lake views and stories about the Ford family. Tickets are booked online.

The walk follows the shoreline of Ford Cove and Bird Island for a closer look at the estate's naturalistic landscape. Your guide weaves together stories of Eleanor and Edsel Ford with the design principles of landscape architect Jens Jensen, and talks about the ecological importance of the lakeside setting.

Good to know: the route uses uneven woodchip and gravel paths and may be challenging for guests with mobility limitations. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes.

If you book the 4 p.m. tour, plan to see the other open buildings beforehand, since they close when that tour ends. The tour is held on the grounds.
