She Kills Monsters
Planet Ant Theatre stages Qui Nguyen's comedy-drama She Kills Monsters on Friday, December 11, at 8 p.m. at Ant Hall in Hamtramck. If you love Dungeons & Dragons and 90s nostalgia, this one's packed with both. Tickets are available online.
When Agnes Evans loses her teenage sister Tilly, she realizes she barely knew her. Tilly's Dungeons & Dragons notebook pulls Agnes into a fantastical world of epic quests, homicidal fairies, snarling ogres and 90s pop culture. Along the way she tries to reconnect with her sister and find courage she never knew she had.
The play mixes comedy, heartfelt drama and action-packed adventure, and celebrates the power of great storytelling and the geek and warrior in all of us. The run goes from December 4 to 19.
Content advisory: strong language, stage combat, sexual references, and themes of grief, bullying and suicide. Recommended for ages 13 and up.
