Every November, the Livonia Amateur Radio Club operates Special Event Station W8F to mark the sinking of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. Members talk with amateur radio operators around the country and the world, sharing the story of the "Mighty Fitz." Anyone who makes contact with W8F earns a special confirmation certificate.

You can watch the operators at work and learn how ham radio connects people across the globe. The ship sank in a storm on November 10, 1975, on its way from Superior, Wisconsin, to Detroit. All 29 crew members were lost in 530 feet of water, about 17 miles northwest of Whitefish Bay.

Tickets are $5 for adults and kids 6 to 17. Members and children 5 and younger get in free.
