Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite
Cliff Bell's Jazz Orchestra, directed by Josh James, plays Duke Ellington's full Nutcracker Suite on Saturday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Cliff Bell's in Detroit. It's an 18-piece big band of Detroit jazz musicians, and tickets are $30.
Ellington reworked Tchaikovsky's ballet score into his own big band sound, and this is a rare chance to hear the whole suite live. The 18-piece band is made up of Detroit jazz players you may already know and love.
Doors open at 5 p.m. for dinner. Seating for Dinner & a Show begins at 6 p.m., and the second show starts seating at 9 p.m. You can reserve a table ahead of time.
