The play is based on the Jena Six: six Black students first charged with attempted murder over a school fight, after nooses were hung from a tree on campus to provoke them.

Dominique Morisseau, who also wrote Sunset Baby, Detroit '67 and Skeleton Crew, looks at a miscarriage of justice, racial double standards, and the crisis in relations between men and women of all classes. Along the way, it shows the shattering state of Black family life.

The production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. The Hilberry Gateway is at 4715 Cass Avenue in Detroit.
