The Detroit Institute of Arts shows its 14th annual Ofrendas exhibition, Day of the Dead altars made by local artists and community members, September 26 through November 1, 2026, during museum hours. It's included with museum admission, which is free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

COMPÁS (Center of Music & Performing Arts Southwest) hosts its Day of the Dead 5K and 10K at Patton Park in Southwest Detroit on Sunday, November 1, with the race starting at 9 a.m. sharp and money raised for COMPÁS youth performing arts. Registration is $55 for the 5K and $60 for the 10K until October 31 at 11:59 p.m.
The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy holds its yearly Day of the Dead celebration at Robert C. Valade Park on Sunday, November 1, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., with food, live entertainment, shop vendors and kids' activities, plus a community ofrenda where you can add a name or message for a loved one. Admission is free.
Kackleberry Farms in Monroe runs its Fall Festival on weekends from September 12 through November 1, plus Thursday and Friday evenings (3–7 p.m.) on October 15, 16, 22 and 23, with 30+ attractions including a super-mega slide, a jumping pillow and pig and duck races. Weekend tickets are $21.99 online or $25 at the gate.
On Sunday, November 1, at 2 p.m., the final day of the DIA's Ofrendas exhibition, the artists behind this year's altars talk about their meaning and inspiration in the Detroit Institute of Arts Lecture Hall, after members of the Mexican Consulate open with the history of Día de Muertos.
