Ferndale Parks & Recreation throws its fall festival at the Detroit Curling Club at Martin Road Park on Saturday, October 3, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., with hay rides, pumpkin painting and a trick-or-treat trail. Tickets are required: $8 early bird through October 1, $10 after.

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy throws Detroit Harvest Fest on Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4, 11 a.m.–8 p.m., at Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park, with live entertainment, local vendors, a food truck rally, full bars, a pumpkin patch and kids' activities. COMPÁS (Center of Music & Performing Arts Southwest) hosts its Day of the Dead 5K and 10K at Patton Park in Southwest Detroit on Sunday, November 1, with the race starting at 9 a.m. sharp and money raised for COMPÁS youth performing arts.
