Ferndale Parks & Recreation throws its fall festival at the Detroit Curling Club at Martin Road Park on Saturday, October 3, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., with hay rides, pumpkin painting and a trick-or-treat trail. Tickets are required: $8 early bird through October 1, $10 after.

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy throws Detroit Harvest Fest on Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4, 11 a.m.–8 p.m., at Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park, with live entertainment, local vendors, a food truck rally, full bars, a pumpkin patch and kids' activities. On Sunday, October 25, Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester lets kids trick-or-treat along the estate's woodland paths and through the first floor of the historic mansion, with games, crafts, cider and donuts in a heated Garden Tent. Advance timed-entry tickets are required ($20 youth, $10 adults), and every slot is expected to sell out.
