Every last Wednesday of the month, LGBTQ+ allies and friends gather for conversation, food, and entertainment in Ferndale, organized by Affirmations.

The Stonewall Run Club organizes regular runs in Ferndale, starting outside Affirmations. Two route options are available: 5k and 10k, finishing alternately at Soho or Sidecar Slider Bar depending on the week. The run is cancelled in case of inclement weather and replaced by an indoor meetup at the Soho/Sidecar Slider Bar.

The GUD Band is a live music group from Detroit known for blending soul, blues, and jazz into their energetic performances. Their style incorporates R&B, funk, soul, gospel, and modern hits to create a fresh yet nostalgic sound.

Grosse Pointe War Memorial hosts a Harvest Dinner on Wednesday, September 30, at 6:30 p.m. at The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms: a prix fixe menu by Executive Chef Joe Paxton followed by The Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club. Fall flavors meet early New Orleans–style jazz. Tickets: $85.

Planet D Nonet (PD9) is a streamlined version of the big bands from the 1930s, often featuring guest vocalists to expand their performance versatility. Their lineup recalls the earliest big bands during swing's evolution, blending small-group agility with a larger harmonic palette.

Like seeing what's next before everyone else does? Proving Grounds brings two fresh opening acts to the Go Comedy! Hosting and headlining: Mug Boys, aka Alex, Will and Jake, three of the most carbonated improvisers in town.

The Detroit Zoological Society throws a strictly 21+ Halloween costume party at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak on Friday, October 2, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. (VIP entry at 6), with more than 100 craft drink tastings, live music and a costume contest. Ferndale Parks & Recreation throws its fall festival at the Detroit Curling Club at Martin Road Park on Saturday, October 3, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., with hay rides, pumpkin painting and a trick-or-treat trail. Tickets are required: $8 early bird through October 1, $10 after.

The Detroit Zoological Society's merry-not-scary Zoo Boo fills the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak with trick-or-treat stations, live entertainment and costumed characters on October 3–4, 9–11, 16–18 and 23–25, from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $21–$25 ($27 at the gate) through the zoo's webstore.
