A family business in Oxford's Legacy Center with five family-friendly escape rooms: four 60-minute games and the tougher 75-minute Mind Shaft. Locals started it in 2016, and one of the founders is a certified math teacher.

Four private escape rooms inside Zap Zone in Waterford Township, where laser tag and an arcade share the building: an alien space station, a pirate brig, a wizardry exam and a morgue at night, all at $30 a head.

Chain-wide specials: $25 basic escapes on Tuesdays; the Escape Room Party package is $349.99 for up to 8 players (the chain's site lists the party at its metro Detroit locations).

A family entertainment center on Kentwood's 28th Street where escape rooms sit alongside bowling, arcade games and laser tag: full 60-minute rooms or quick 10-minute mini challenges for groups of 2–8.

Inside the entertainment hub of Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme sits a 30-minute, multi-chamber Egyptian escape room. Bowling, VR, an arcade and axe throwing are right next door, and walk-ins are welcome.
$20 per person Sunday–Thursday, $25 Friday–Saturday for the 30-minute experience. The Escape and Play bundle with VR, mini bowling and arcade credits is $30 Sunday–Thursday and $35 Friday–Saturday. Walk-ins welcome.
Family-friendly / Houghton Lake
Family-friendly escape rooms in Houghton Lake: two classic rooms plus a Puzzle Room with no locked door, just a high score to beat. Kids get their own lower price, and 5 and under play free.
Escape rooms: adults (13 and up) $25, kids 6–12 $20, 5 and under free. Puzzle Room: adults $15, kids 5–12 $10, 4 and under free.

Closed escape rooms from Detroit and Michigan, with everything we know about them: address, old phone number, rooms, years. They’re part of the city’s story too.
Detroit’s first known escape game opened in late 2014 in the Penobscot Building downtown: Trapped in a Room with a Zombie locked you in with, well, a zombie, and by February 2015 even The New York Times had written about it. By the summer of 2016 you could pick from about 19 games run by eight companies, and then the suburban wave arrived. Most of that first generation closed between 2018 and 2022, many around the pandemic, but their records stay here.

A small family fun center in Westland with video-game consoles, pool tables and two 60-minute escape rooms, made for preteens and up. It closed in 2023.

An escape room tucked inside a Warren bowling center: Regal Lanes' one and only room, Telegraph, hosted parties and company team-building groups, and you got to bowl free afterward. It closed in 2019.
06 / First time?
Most places are booking-only, and weekend evenings fill up fast. The booking calendar shows which room is free when.
Some places may team you up with strangers unless you book the whole room. If you only want your own crew, look for a private booking.
Most places run a short briefing first and ask you to sign a waiver. Arrive late and it usually comes out of your game time.
The game master is watching and will give you a hint when you’re stuck. It doesn’t make the win smaller, just the mood better.
Age limits differ by venue and by room. We list what each venue publishes, but double-check on their own site before you go.
